Description
Big Bend is in the Chihauhaun desert. This section of the Rio Grande is often dry or has very little water in it. That's why this was such a special sight. A view of the Rio Grande River from Bouquillas, Mexico, (pop. 250) across the border from Big Bend National Park in Texas. The town shut down after 9/11 and only reopened in 2013. The town was originally established in 1930 as an international peace park. It is well worth the time to visit on a trip to the park. The people are amazingly friendly and accommodating.
