Clare Abbey Church and Graveyard Ennis, Ireland, was once connected to the highest clans in the region. The Cistercian Abbey was built between 1189 and 1194 but most of the construction is from the 15th century. The square central tower of the main enclosure is still intact standing above an archway that divides the chapel in half. Each gable end has an elaborate high arched window displaying the stonework that these ancient craftsmen were famous for and within the walls are several grave markers and headstones. In 1278 the abbey was the scene of carnage when factions of the O'Brien Clan were involved a fracas between themselves which left many people slaughtered. By 1700 it was a ruin. The graveyard is still used today and there are many interesting tombs, vaults, mausoleums, and gravestones most of which are in a surprisingly good condition. Original photo by Nadalyn Larsen.
From the Artist: I am a photographer with an eclectic eye. I shoot anything that catches my attention, whether a detail of a larger object or the expanse of a landscape. When photographing places or events, I strive to convey the feeling or impression I felt from the experience as much as sharing the scene. I like to experiment with my art, particularly creating abstract photographs. I am challenged to take my photos from the seat of a mobility device. Despite my challenges, I have traveled throughout the US and internationally, capturing the world from my perspective. I hope you enjoy my work. Feel free to contact me through this site if you have questions or requests. Also, please feel free to comment on any work that you find...
