Description
The Saint-Sulpice Fountain in Place Saint-Sulpice of Paris. It was built between 1843 and 1848. It was designed by Louis Visconti, the designer of the tomb of Napoleon. The fountain was part of a plan to improve the city's water supply and build new fountains. Being opposite the church it was ordered that the subject matter of the building should be religious. The four figures on the four side of the fountain represent famous seventeenth-century French religious activists. In this shot the figure on the right is Jean-Baptiste Massillon with Esprit Flechier on the left. Original photo by Nadalyn Larsen.
