Description
A tympanum or bas-relief over the main church door of St. Sengolene church showing angels worshiping the Madonna. The Church of Sainte-Ségolène, a Roman Catholic church located on Place Jeanne-d'Arc in Metz France, is a lovely small church we stumbled upon one very windy day. Though it is not as grand as the cathedrals of France, it is well worth visiting for its gorgeous stained glass, countless statues, and artwork. Every inch of the walls, ceilings, and columns are painted with beautiful old religious scenes, delicate designs, and iconography. Some of the work is still bright and crisp while others are faded and desperately in need of restoration. As you look at my photos of this church, please look at the details of the beautiful art. Several buildings have been on this site since the first chapel built between 800 and 830 A.D. The current Gothic style church was built in 1250 and was enlarged in the 15th century.
